1. What is Scrum? 

  • The way I like to describe scrum, especially to anyone new it, is it's a framework for getting work done smarter, not harder. This framework provides a team with structure to plan, reflect, and (when applied correctly) creates a rewarding compounding effect of fewer blockers, faster deliveries, increased team efficiency and a strong team cohesion. 

2.     How do you address lack of Agile buy-in?

  • I’m a firm believer that data speaks louder than buzzwords, so I lean into visual infographics of say-do charts, burndown charts, and use other team data to demonstrate the effectiveness of Agile. When folks see how Agile leads to better features, fewer headaches and improved efficiency that saves operational costs, they’re on board pretty quick.

3.     How do you know your team is successful (or not)?

  • I watch the data, but I also pay attention to the team's cohesion. If burndown charts are smooth, carryovers are dropping, demos are lively and retrospectives are heavily participated with honest feedback, I know the team is in a synergistic sweet spot. However, if we’re constantly spilling over stories or daily morale seems low, I know it’s time to dig deeper and realign the team.

4.     How do you address team conflict?

  • I always walk into conflict resolution conversations reminding folks we’re all on the same team, and we just have different perspectives on the best way to cross the finish line. Most conflict stems from people not feeling heard, so during conflict resolution meetings, I ensure everyone has dedicated time to speak and be heard. Once people feel seen, the tension usually softens, and we can properly align. Ultimately, it's really steering away from the “you vs. me” mentality and remind everyone that it's “us vs. the problem.”

5.     Why do you think this role with us is the right fit for you?

  • I’m looking to bring my experience closer to home and supporting an institution like ____ that aligns with my personal goals to contribute directly to my community by releasing technology that works in the best interest of ____. From a role standpoint, the Scrum Master role is a natural fit with my existing Agile facilitation experience, particularly working in highly regulated financial environments, understanding the importance of driving business value, adhering to compliance standards and heightening overall financial service satisfaction rates. 

6.     What do you anticipate being some of your most significant challenges in this role?

  • The biggest challenge will probably be getting acquainted with the internal systems and current team dynamics. That said, I’m pretty familiar with jumping into complex environments, and I’m not afraid to dedicate many hours to learning. Also, with my strong documentation, sharp observation skills, and genuine curiosity, I'm confident that I’ll close the knowledge gap quickly.


7.     What’s the most exciting thing about being a Scrum Master right now?

  • The digital transformation occurring within banking and fintech is so exciting especially with AI, automation, and personalization taking center stage. Helping teams adapt to and deliver these types of ground-breaking innovations while staying grounded in Agile values is a unique and rewarding experience to help shape the future of how users interact with their financial assets.


8.     What’s the most valuable feedback you’ve received in your career or in your personal life?

  • Easily the most valuable feedback I received was to say yes more often. That seemingly simple piece of advice helped me grow both personally and professionally in ways I never expected. It has led me to so many exciting projects, new roles, stronger skills, a broader network, and has given me invaluable experiences I am proud to carry with me today.
