Apron & Aromas (Recipe Pages)
A feel-good recipe collection for family-first foodies.
The Challenge
This design concept explores how visual storytelling and personal photography can create a cozy, uplifting experience for the modern home cook. I wanted to reimagine the traditional recipe book as something more than instructional—something that feels like a sunny Saturday morning or a handwritten note from a friend.
Geared toward suburban homemakers who cherish beauty, balance, and family nourishment, this layout needed to be equal parts functional and delightful. Recipes like a flaky Mushroom Apple Tart and hearty Kale & Sundried Tomato Pasta were selected to reflect both comfort and creativity in the kitchen.
The Method
My goal was to create a layout that was approachable and joyfully styled—like a kitchen window garden come to life on paper. I styled and photographed each dish in natural light using minimal editing to let the food shine.
Headings are cheery typefaces for warmth and familiarity
Section titles use soft pastel blocks for clear navigation
Each recipe features ingredients alongside the instructions
Each recipe starts with a humorous introduction, tips and cooking progression photos
Tools used: Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom
This hands-on process allowed me to blend photography, layout design, and culinary storytelling in a cohesive way that feels personal and polished.
The Outcome
This passion project became more than just a collection of recipes, it became a visual expression of joy, tradition, and the beauty of everyday cooking. By focusing on cheerful aesthetics and real-life usability, I created a concept that suburban readers would want to keep open on their counter—not just for the recipes, but for the way it makes them feel while cooking. It’s food, styled with love with one comforting plate at a time.
