Coffee Shop Branding Package

Morning Grind But With a Midnight Palette

The Challenge

Creating a visual identity for a coffee shop like Roasted Raven meant finding the perfect balance between edgy rebellion and artisanal sophistication. The brand needed to resonate with a niche yet expressive crowd (Portland’s punk, goth, and creative subcultures) while still conveying the quality and care behind each cup of coffee.

The concept had to be bold enough to catch attention in a busy downtown landscape, but also flexible enough to translate across marketing materials like social media posts, screen-printed tees, enamel pins, and die-cut stickers. The ultimate challenge was developing a branding that felt handcrafted, atmospheric, and unmistakably local.

The Method

I began by crafting a moody, midnight-toned color palette with accents of bone white and blacks—an aesthetic nod to vintage concert flyers and Victorian tattoo linework. Custom typography and raven illustrations were developed to feel both gritty and refined, mirroring the dual nature of the café’s audience: creative, nocturnal, and quality-conscious.

Design elements included:

  • A versatile raven logo mark that can shift from patchwork icon to full banner use

  • Taglines like "Bitter Never Tasted So Good," "Brewed with Attitude," and "Caffeinate your Anarchy" to capture the brand’s voice

  • Merch mockups featuring black and white fabrics paired with gothic serif type

  • Social media templates for promoting events, pop-up dates, and limited edition pastries

  • Tools Used: Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign

Throughout, I prioritized cohesion and boldness, ensuring every element could stand alone or work as part of a complete system.

The Outcome

The final branding kit for Roasted Raven reflects the cafe’s identity: haunting but hip, sarcastic but sincere. The designs invite locals to feel like part of an underground scene that knows good coffee and even better vibes.

The merch lineup is ready for screen printing and pop-up shop appearances, with enough visual punch to turn café customers into brand ambassadors. By creating a world around the raven, the café becomes more than a coffee stop—it becomes a edgy lifestyle statement with late-night appeal.
